Solving Humanity’s Greatest Challenges: Food Security & Sustainability

plant

The global challenge of food security is not just about producing enough food — it’s about doing so in a way that sustains future generations. Every year, billions of tons of food are wasted across the supply chain, while over 800 million people worldwide face hunger. With a rapidly growing population, the strain on resources like land, water, and energy is only increasing. To secure the future of food, we must rethink how we produce, consume, and manage our food resources

OUR STORY

From Singapore to Southeast Asia

FeedBank started in Singapore with a simple but bold mission: to rethink how we produce food and manage waste. Inspired by Singapore’s own transformation from a small city-state into a global powerhouse, we took our first steps by pioneering Black Soldier Fly farming at the height of COVID-19 in 2020.

Our Solutions

Insect Farming for a Sustainable Future

Insect farming, particularly Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming, presents a powerful solution to the food security challenge. By converting organic waste into high-quality protein and fertiliser, BSF farming provides a sustainable, resource-efficient way to produce food and reduce waste. It uses far less land, water, and energy compared to traditional livestock farming, while generating fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Insect farming can be a critical tool in addressing food insecurity and reducing our environmental footprint.

Our Team

Driven by Experience & Vision

FeedBank is led by a team of industry experts who bring years of experience from their work at Insect Feed Technologies, a pioneering company in the same field. During their time at IFT, the team earned several industry accolades, secured investments from both private and public sectors, highlighting their innovative approaches and commitment to sustainability. These include the President’s Social Enterprise Start-up of the Year Award in 2021, the Spirit of Enterprise Sustainability Award in 2022, and the Emerging Enterprise Sustainability Start-up Finalist Award in 2023. These milestones showcase the journey of our growth and laid the foundation for the work we’re doing at FeedBank today.

Now, at FeedBank, they continue to push the boundaries of sustainable food systems, leveraging the knowledge and insights gained from their previous ventures to build a company that is ready to meet the challenges of global food security. Zechary Hoe, as our Chief Executive Officer, leads the way, ensuring that we stay focused on execution and delivering practical, impactful solutions.

Like many other startups, we faced challenges— launching in the middle of a pandemic was no easy task. But the issue of food waste sustainability could not wait. Food waste is a massive environmental challenge, not just in Singapore but globally, and we knew something had to be done.

What began as a small initiative has now expanded across Southeast Asia, with operations in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Along the way, we've had the opportunity to work with other exciting startups and global industry leaders alike. These companies span a variety of sectors — from pet food and poultry to sustainable fuel.

Our goal remains the same—building a more sustainable food system that turns waste into value and provides solutions for a growing world.

Our Partners

At FeedBank, we believe in the power of collaboration to drive innovation and sustainability. We work alongside leading experts from various sectors—including pet food, poultry, agriculture, and sustainable fuels—to develop and optimize our Black Soldier Fly (BSF) solutions. These collaborations help us tackle complex challenges, improve our processes, and expand our product offerings.

On the input side, we partner with agri-food players including breweries, fresh markets, palm oil processing companies to upcycle their by-products, ensuring our insects receive optimal nutrition while solving waste challenges. For product development, we engage with research institutes and startups who help with engineering, genetics, and product innovation. This collaborative approach allows us to deliver consistent, high-quality products that meet the specific needs of our clients while minimizing environmental impact.

We are always seeking new partnerships with industry leaders and experts who share our commitment to building a more sustainable future. By learning from and working with the best, we continue to innovate and lead in the insect farming industry.

Roughly a third of the world’s food is wasted. That’s about 1.3 billion tons a year.

The world loses an astounding quantity of food every year. 1.3 billion tons of food suitable for human consumption and 1.6 billion tons of so-called "primary product equivalents” are lost or wasted. This represents roughly US$1 trillion dollars lost in food products per year.
